Tweeting Tharoor and the cricket controversy

Minister of State for External Affairs for Africa Shashi Tharoor considered himself a modern diplomat for his embracing of the internet messaging website Twitter. Yet his tweets from Liberia and Mauritius did little more than rankle Delhi’s chattering classes. Twitter also proved to be his downfall after a battle of words with Lalit Modi, Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), led to his resignation on 18 April. ‘I will always be a voice for Africa,’ said Tharoor, a former United Nations Under-Secretary General for Communications.
