Richer military, fewer voters

With the record low turnout for the general elections on 18-19 October likely to delegitimise Parliament and further strengthen the hand of President Abdel Fatah el Sisi, the military and the security services are grabbing more financial privileges. This is despite a worsening economic crisis and the government's desperate search for ways to bridge the budget deficit.
