Whose coup is it anyway?

The government has foiled a plot to kill Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada and kidnap President Evaristo Carvalho and the National Assembly President José Diogo, it claimed on 7 August. Two São Toméans and three Spanish ex- soldiers, allegedly armed with grenades and AK47s, were detained, but the news was greeted sceptically by many islanders.
