Money worries

The federal patchwork is barely holding together while a new currency launches. Farmajo's absence in New York is raising questions

The Finance Minister of the federal government, Abdirahman Bayle, believed he had good reason to congratulate himself at the end of a week of talks with the International Monetary Fund on 22 September. His country had fulfilled all 27 conditions for receiving debt relief, and is ready to issue a new currency. Only US$41 million is needed to complete the plan but with the blessing of the Fund the money should be found with ease.
