The Ramaphosa relaunch

The President has the mandate to purge corruption from the ANC but his foes in the party will complicate reform efforts

President Cyril Ramaphosa's mandate at the polls, amid waning support for the ruling African National Congress and rapidly growing support for the populist Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), leaves him in a precarious situation to deliver his promised 'new dawn'. The President indicated in his victory speech outside ANC headquarters on Monday that he would only appoint officials who were 'not corrupt and arrogant'. But within the party battle royal is looming over any purge.
