Divorce Moroccan-style

Rumours of problems in King Mohammed VI (M6)'s marriage to Princess Lalla Salma (née Bennani) have persisted for years and the couple are now separated after 17 years, although few details have emerged. After Lalla Salma was reported in July to be holidaying with her 12-year-old daughter on the superyacht Serenity off the Greek island of Skiathos – while M6 stayed at home with his son – some media went much further. Gala magazine suggested a Dubai-style effort to flee was under way. This led to a letter of protest from the Palace's French lawyer, Eric Dupond-Moretti, saying 'King Mohammed VI and his ex-wife Lalla Salma jointly' called such rumours 'intolerable'.
