Forced delay

Late on 28 February, President Alpha Condé made an unexpected appearance on national television, admitting he had been pressured into delaying the double poll he had called for 1 March. The legislative election is 30 months late, while the constitutional referendum he announced in his New Year address to the nation is a pet project that many assume will give him the ticket to run for a third term of office.
