SWAPO swept away

The electorate dealt a stunning blow to the ruling SWAPO Party in the 25 November municipal elections, costing it its majority in four of the country's 14 regions. Disaffection among young, urban voters especially was judged responsible for the upset, as SWAPO lost in 30 of the 51 towns and villages for which results had been declared by 2 December.
