Top police face sack amid rising crime

After struggling to reform the system dominated by his predecessor's allies, Ramaphosa is making some critical new appointments

The writing is on the wall for National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole and Police Minister Bheki Cele after President Cyril Ramaphosa's State of the Nation address in which he indicated that he would soon announce leadership changes in the security agencies amid a host of other reform promises. Pressure has been mounting for sweeping personnel changes in the police and reforms in all national security organisations after the attempted insurrection last July and the gutting of the national parliament building by fire on 2 January.
