Fearing a populist wave from the Malema and Zuma parties, the ANC is sending its veteran leaders to get out the vote for 29 May

So serious is the prospect of it losing badly in the 29 May election that the ruling African National Congress has leant on its former leaders, including those who have retired and have lambasted the current leadership, to front the last weeks of the campaign to persuade angry ANC voters to give the party one last chance. Turnout will be key. Some 9 million people registered to vote in the last election but didn't. If 1.5 million of them vote, they could decide the election.
