Cross to bear

The arrest of a Belgian Roman Catholic priest has revived controversy over Rwanda's gacaca tribunals. With unprecedented speed, on 11 September the gacaca sent Guy Theunis, of the Society of Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) to the assizes, for 'incitement of genocide'. Fr. Theunis lived in Rwanda before, during and after the genocide of 1994 but military intelligence arrested him only at the airport in transit from Congo-Kinshasa to Europe on 6 September.
