Filling the lanterns

The auction for new acreage in Angola's rich offshore oilfields, which began in Luanda on 9 May, will increase China's stake in Angola's oil and gas industry. China already takes 13 per cent of its imported oil from Angola, which yields about 1.4 million barrels a day. Both figures are set to rise as Angola aims to boost production to 2 mn. b/d by 2007-2008.
