Carole Collins was a friend of Africa and of Africa Confidential. Journalist, academic, and most strikingly, advocate for peace and justice, she had been deeply involved with Africa since the mid-1980s, when she and her husband and trades union activist Steve Askin, worked in Kenya. The following year, they moved to Zimbabwe, where they stayed for four years.
