Southern front

On 15 February, heavily armed People's Defence Forces massed in the Nuba capital, Kadugli, shouting slogans against the Sudan People's Liberation Movement. SPLM Governor Ismail Khamis Jalab accused unnamed forces of 'provocation'. Under the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), Ismail must soon hand over to Khartoum's chosen successor. Tensions are high: feelings of betrayal by both sides thrive among the 2-3 million Nuba people trapped between North and South.
