Life after a game of golf

President Mwai Kibaki and putative Prime Minister Raila Odinga spent the day together at the Karen Open, Nairobi's most prestigious golf tournament on 10 March. Spectacularly out of place on the golf course in ties and suits, the two politicians smiled benignly at each other and the spectators. It was the latest and most convincing of their joint public appearances and was designed to show unity. Raila is not keen on golf but in the spirit of national unity Kibaki, a stalwart of the Muthaiga Golf Club, suggested that young Kenyans should take up golf as an income-generating activity.
