Third term lucky

Malawi's constitution limits a president to two five-year terms. President Bakili Muluzi wants a third (AC Vol 41 No 22). His main opponent, Brown Mpinganjira, ex-Minister of Education and of Foreign Affairs, now faces trial on a bribery charge. Willie Katenga Kaunda, Secretary General of the ruling United Democratic Front, says the party has expelled Mpinganjira, his wife Lizzie and two other senior MPs for making unacceptable statements against the leadership.
