Facing Nkunda

Foreign Ministers Bernard Kouchner of France and Karel de Gucht of Belgium want the European Union to send forces to take on General Laurent Nkunda and his rebel Congrès National pour la Défense du Peuple (CNDP). Thousands of people fled from Goma, the Nord-Kivu capital, on 29 October, caught between Nkunda’s rebels and random attacks by the government’s Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo (FARDC).
