After the rains

As the rains end and hardliners in Addis Ababa and Asmara threaten renewed fighting senior figures in both governments have privately been sending out peace signals. The differences between the two sides are small, on paper at least. On the ground, they are again in danger of exploding into a full-scale war, of which the only beneficiary would be Sudan’s National Islamic Front government.
