Wade rallies

After looking distinctly lacklustre in recent weeks, President Abdoulaye Wade’s prospects for re-election have brightened considerably while the opposition looks divided and riot police keep the streets on lockdown. Some even speculate that Wade could clear the 50% hurdle in the first round on 26 February. Yet he remains extremely unpopular, especially in Dakar, although the opposition seems unable to channel the discontent into a coherent strategy.
