Charity ends at home

Recession in the industrialised world has cut into financial support for NGOs and private think-tanks in Africa

Civic activists and concerned citizens are threatened by a steep drop in charitable donations. The funding model of voluntary donations for good works is a victim of the Western economic recession which started in 2008 and is still going strong. The idea that philanthropic individuals and companies should plough money into good causes in Africa with little public acknowledgment looks old-fashioned.
