Killing on the quiet

The Interior Minister, Edouard Nduwimana, ordered Human Rights Watch to cancel a news conference in Bujumbura on 2 May at which the campaigning organisation had planned to release a report on political violence in Burundi. The official reason was that HRW had not asked for authorisation. The real reason was that the report documents the rise in political killings between late 2010 and late 2011.
