New investors, armed and dangerous

Juba's search for investment dollars has attracted disgraced European politicians and American military entrepreneurs

Now styling himself an 'independent financial analyst', Dominique Strauss-Kahn arrived in Juba on 14 May to help highlight the launch of the National Credit Bank. Before falling from grace as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund in 2011, following rape accusations by a New York chambermaid, DSK had been tipped as a contender for French President (AC Vol 52 No 11 and Blog 13 June 2011). His association with it, could be a mixed blessing for the new bank. Strauss-Kahn faces several cases in the French courts, ranging from charges of sexual violence and involvement in a prostitution ring.
