IBK's agenda

Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta approaches his 19 September inauguration as Mali’s new President backed by an overwhelming 77.62% of the vote, to Soumaïla Cissé’s 22.38%. The mandate sets him up nicely but there is much to do. Most challenging is reaching a settlement for the north with the Mouvement national de libération de l’Azawad. The 18 June Ouagadougou agreement which the transitional government struck with the MNLA set a 60-day deadline for opening negotiations. First, however, he must form a government and prepare for legislative elections.
