A family divided

Two weeks before the legislative and local elections on 30 September, the ruling Rassemblement démocratique du peuple camerounais (RDPC) has caused a shock by recruiting Aminatou Ahidjo, youngest daughter of Founding President Ahmadou Ahidjo, President Paul Biya’s predecessor. She is estranged her from her mother, Germaine Ahidjo, who still campaigns for the repatriation of her husband’s remains from her exile in Dakar, Senegal, where he died in 1989, and the return of the family property (AC Vol 49 No 23, A kidnapped colonel).
