Masters of war

Mediation and fighting were both going on as we went to press: Eritrea and Ethiopia both accept the need for demarcation and demilitarisation and have even indicated they could accept an International Court decision. Yet each still loudly proclaims the other at fault and builds up forces along border flash points (AC Vol 39 No 11), calling up reservists and veterans. Troops have massed around Biru near the Assab road, at Om Hajer and Humera near the Sudan border, at Badme, and at Alitiena and Zalembessa, north of Adigrat and a scene of heavy fighting. Confidence within both armies is running ominously high.
