Seeking spies

A year before 1999's general elections, the spectre of some senior African National Congress officials being publicly named as having spied for the National Party regime haunts the government. Latest accusations have come from Pan Africanist Congress MP Patricia de Lille, who has tabled a motion in parliament in which she will name twelve top ANC figures who, she claims, 'spied for apartheid'. Among those she named in parliament last year are Defence Minister Joe Modise and Deputy Intelligence Minister Joe Nhlanhla.ANC officials dismissed the allegations and challenged her to repeat them outside parliament.
