Sanogo case falters

Procedural errors in the arrest and prosecution of Malian coup leader General Amadou Haya Sanogo may be enough to see his trial collapse, legal sources in Bamako have told Africa Confidential. The state seems to have handed enough ammunition to any competent defence counsel to see off the prospect of a conviction. Sanogo is charged with involvement in the massacre of rival Red Beret soldiers (AC Vol 54 No 21, Flare-up in the north).
