Succession scramble

Nominations for the next President of the African Development Bank will open officially in July. However, already prospective candidates are jostling to succeed Donald Kaberuka, whose term ends in a year's time. Economic nationalists in the AfDB who admire Ethiopia's progress are pushing for its longstanding Finance Minister, Sufian Ahmed, who is also respected in Beijing.
