Capital flight

A storm broke over President Alpha Condé's government after Senegalese customs seized US$8 million in US dollar and euro banknotes from a small aircraft that had flown from Conakry to Dakar on 8 August. Hours later, the money was allowed to continue on its way to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after Senegal's Finance Minister Amadou Ba intervened. The Governor of Guinea's central bank, the Banque centrale de la République de Guinée (BCRG), Louncény Nabé, vouched for the funds but could not quell speculation about the unorthodox nature and purpose of the transfer.
