Post-KK traumas

The old leader has gone and the new ones have not yet arrived

So strong was the personality cult around the Independence leader and Father of the Nation, former President Kenneth Kaunda, that his United National Independence Party has been thrown into chaos, even terminal chaos, since he announced his retirement a year ago. Loyal supporters wept and wailed, unable to believe that KK was leaving them. Some senior party members still call for his come-back, arguing (rightly enough) that 'there is no credible leader in UNIP other than Kaunda'.
