The tragic return of famine may just help efforts to end the war with Eritrea

The international reaction to the famine in Ethiopia and the Greater Horn is putting new pressure on Addis Ababa and Asmara to make progress in the next round of peace talks scheduled this month. However much Eritrea and Ethiopia try to separate the issues of war and famine - ' We didn't call for the war, we didn't call for the drought,' says Simon Mechale of Ethiopia's National Disaster Prevention Commission - foreign governments and international organisations have been sharply critical of both countries' handling of the famine.
