Mnangagwa's resolution

A seemingly downbeat Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front annual conference this month lacked the overt factional fireworks many had expected. Yet it laid down a major political marker while most media attention was focused on the resolution floated by the War Veterans and the Women's League to ban anyone under the age of 52 from standing for the presidency. Had that motion passed, with its transparent object of excluding the 40-year-old Movement for Democratic Change leader Nelson Chamisa from the next election, it would have been open season on President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the international and regional press.
