In Britain for a month, former President Bakili Muluzi tells Africa Confidential about his political plans

Malawian attitudes to former President Bakili Muluzi are still mixed but President Bingu wa Mutharika insists that he is still a 'good friend'. His Deputy Information Minister, John Bande, accused Muluzi of telling 'lies' about his overseas visit to attract financial support for it; his press officer, Chikumbutso Mtumodzi, 'discovered' ten-year-old secret documents linking him to the late Colonel John Garang and his Sudan People's Liberation Army.
