The next revolt

The curious rebellion on 17 November by a score of soldiers was defused when the rebels, who had been surrounded, surrendered peacefully. No military units had joined them; eleven officers have been detained and a leading judge, Raymond Ranjeva, stands accused of incitement to rebellion. Some serving soldiers want the mutineers released, though, and underlying discontent among the military and some politicians lives on.
