What ever did military intelligence officials talk about at a four-day international conference in London last week? They certainly discussed West Africa (including Sierra Leone), Central Africa and also Southern Africa, Africa Confidential understands. What they didn't specifically talk about was East Africa (including the Eritrean-Ethiopian, Sudanese and Ugandan wars). This grand comparing of notes was selective in its internationalism, too: present, we hear, were officials from only Britain, Canada and the United States. The 'special relationship', in which the UK shares information with North America rather than its European partners, is reportedly blossoming.
