New leader's old problems

The dry, technocratic former premier has won the election but choosing his own premier and forming a government will be no easy task  

Faustin Archange Touadéra's victory in the presidential election is a small step towards national reconstruction after a year of intercommunal warfare and two more of chaotic and corrupt transitional politics. His defeated rival for the presidency, Anicet Georges Dologuélé , has accused Touadéra of committing major electoral fraud and is now trying to use his Masonic network in the region and in France to undermine him. Dologuélé is also blaming Karim Meckassoua, one of the few well-regarded ministers of François Bozizé's time as President and a presidential candidate knocked out in the first round, of unfairly aiding Touadéra's win.
