Sudan

A good deal missing

Three documents were signed on 26 May in Kenya by the National Islamic Front regime and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army. The protocols were: On Power Sharing, On the Resolution of Conflict in Abyei and On the Resolution of Conflict in Southern Kordofan/Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile States. Details of implementation, yet to be agreed, contain fundamental issues for both parties. Western mediators want things tidied up quickly and Khartoum counts on speed to obscure issues such as the survival of its security organisations.
