Starting the post-Zuma race

Backing from the ANC's top policy-making committee means that President Zuma can hang on but his authority is shrinking

This has been one of Jacob Zuma's worst months since becoming President in 2009. On 25 November, the mounting list of corruption allegations against him are to be discussed at the 104-strong National Executive Committee of the governing African National Congress (ANC). Latest soundings suggest he retains the support of well over half the NEC, even if his political authority is much diminished. That weakness extends to Zuma's power over state budgets, procurement and contracts. That's a battleground where he is losing to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan .
