Key round to Masisi

President Mokgweetsi Masisi has fended off a dangerous challenge for the leadership of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from former senior cabinet minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, widely seen as a stalking horse for former President Ian Khama. She withdrew her bid at the eleventh hour, leaving Masisi unopposed at the BDP congress on 5 April. Both Khama and Venson-Moitoi complained bitterly of irregularities, intimidation and bias in Masisi's favour during the contest.
