ANC hits coalition conundrum

Power is ebbing away from the ruling ANC but opposition parties lack the numbers to form stable alliances

Intra-party rivalries will reach new heights in the run-up to the African National Congress's (ANC) elective conference in December next year as the allies of former President Jacob Zuma make a renewed push for power. They hope to weaponise the ANC's poor performance in last month's muncipal elections which has led to several unstable coalitions taking over local governments with no signs that they can improve service delivery.
