Settlement hits another bump

Swiss-based commodity trading giant Glencore is struggling to finalise its US$1.5 billion settlement with the US authorities. Now, a new player has entered into the drama. Glencore had agreed to a statement of facts with prosecutors, detailing corruption in seven countries. While there was nothing about Glencore’s most notorious scandal, its multibillion-dollar dealings with Dan Gertler in Congo-Kinshasa, the ‘information’ gave intriguing details about a bribe paid to a Congolese judge to rig a lawsuit brought by a medical services company.
