Khartoum's Islamists are confident of dominating the Government of National Unity

The list of appointments to the new Government of National Unity (GNU) confirms that it is not much concerned about national unity. The National Islamic Front/National Congress Party will continue to rule Northern Sudan, while the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army is mainly interested in ruling the South. Khartoum was confident enough to provide air cover for fresh attacks by its allied Janjaweed in Darfur and the militias also attacked over the border into Chad.
