Khartoum's jihadis

Intelligence officials have noted Khartoum's repeated threats to attack UN troops; Field Marshal-President Omer Hassan Ahmed el Beshir has promised to lead the jihad. Yet the international community still focuses on foreign radicals rather than those in power in Khartoum. The United States military's Pan-Sahel and Horn of Africa initiatives have focussed on claims about bands of Islamist extremists in eastern Sudan - where it is unthinkable for such groups to operate without Khartoum's say so.
