Parliamentary prosecutions

A rowdy session is in prospect following parliament's return after the winter recess and President Robert Mugabe's determination to regain control of it. His strategy - and that of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) - is to involve Movement for Democratic Change members of Parliament in court cases that force them to resign and tie them up in legal proceedings (AC Vol 50 No 15). If enough MDC MPs are snagged (twelve have been hit so far), the party could lose its parliamentary majority.
