It's the economy, probably

President Seretse Khama Ian Khama is unlikely to lose the reputation for dogmatism and autocracy which he earned by slapping a 30% levy on alcohol sales to curb drunkenness, backing greater controls on the media, and trying ­ with mixed results ­ to discipline his Botswana Democratic Party. Now that he has a majority in his own right, he may feel able to deal more effectively with party dissidents, such as the veteran former minister Daniel Kwelagobe, who defeated Khama's nominee, businesswoman Tebelelo Seretse, to win the BDP's chairmanship at its acrimonious July congress. Khama and Kwelagobe put on a show of unity for the elections. It is unlikely to last.
