Mounting strikes

Support is building for the national strike of nurses, teachers and clerks since it was launched on 18 August, presenting two serious threats to President Jacob Zuma’s government. First there is the disruption of the post-World Cup euphoria, and second, the further alienation of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) from the African National Congress (ANC).
