Rajoelina agrees a deal

Andry ‘TGV’ Rajoelina was prepared to compromise once he thought Ravalomanana no longer represented an electoral threat

No sooner had interim leader Andry Rajoelina agreed to terms that included the return of the exiled Marc Ravalomanana, than senior figures in the governing Haute Autorité de la Transition (HAT) were threatening to arrest the former President. Nevertheless, the momentum behind the compromise agreement made during the night of 16-17 September in Antananarivo is stronger than at any point in the past two-and-a-half years of stalemate.
