Winning them over one by one

The plan to secure President Jacob Zuma certain victory at the African National Congress’s leadership election focuses on one-to-one meetings with his main opponents. Zuma’s enforcers are concentrating on those ANC figures who have strong local support in provinces: they persuade the dissenters to switch sides on one hand offering more patronage and on the other hand threatening to take away their existing state contracts.
