Zuma's axe falls

The pace of President Jacob Zuma’s cull of his opponents in the African National Congress is picking up as he lays the groundwork for next year’s general elections (AC Vol 54 No 8). Most of those marked for later removal after defying him at the ANC’s December’s congress at Mangaung are now on their way. Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale was sacked on 9 July. So were Cooperative Governance Minister Richard Baloyi and Communications Minister Dina Pule, although that could be as much to do with perceived incompetence as political allegiance.
