'I'll go home to die'

In the final months of Pascal Lissouba's presidential term, which officially ended on 31 August, over 6,000 people have died in the war between his supporters and those of ex-dictator Denis Sassou Nguesso. Lissouba visited Paris on 3-6 September to stay in his sumptuous house in the Rue de Prony (nearby the late Jacques Foccart's home) – and to ask for French help. He didn't get it.
